Mini Gingerbread House Cookies

Saturday, November 30, 2013

We just have to share how these originated.  Everyone (and maybe even their dog) has cookie cutter sets with too many holiday-themed cookie cutters that never get used.  Well, this Christmas we are putting one of those never-before-seen-on-this-blog shapes from Halloween to good use.  Yes, that's right, Halloween. We used what was intended to be a haunted house as a frilly little gingerbread house.  Then we even came up with a fun way to make it look like snow melted on it.  Check it out!

Here's how we did it...
` pack buttercream frosting into a freezer zip-top plastic bag, cut off the corner, and pipe it along the top of your gingerbread house in a zig-zag fashion, leaving no spaces in-between the zigs and the zags

Click HERE for our buttercream frosting recipe.

Now we will show you how to get from this (zig-zagged frosting) to that (melted snow).

place cookie with the zig-zagged frosting on a small microwavable plate (we did one at a time) and microwave for 6-9 seconds.

sometimes it helps to tip the plate and encourage the melted frosting to run downward
while the frosting is still wet, place holly leaf sprinkles on snowy rooftop

before you know it, you will have constructed an entire neighborhood of cookie cutter homes... hehe... that smell delicious
